PT. Asuransi Sinar Mas di dirikan pada tanggal 27 Mei 1985 bernamakan PT. Asuransi Kerugian Sinar Mas Dipta dengan surat keputusan No. Kep-2562/MD 1986. Pada tahun 1991, Perusahaan tersebut berganti nama menjadi PT. Asuransi Sinar Mas. PT. Asuransi Sinar Mas (ASM) adalah salah satu diantara perusahaan-perusahaan asuransi umum yang paling besar di Indonesia. Selama perjalanannya, Asuransi Sinar mas menunjukkan perkembangan yang berkaitan. Premi bruto serta keseluruhan asset Perusahaan dengan cara berkelanjutan bertambah dari tahun ke tahun, termasuk juga di beberapa tahun di mana terjadi goncangan ekonomi global.
